Supporting Your Healing After a Reiki Session

Yesterday a lovely healing client asked me a great question. What could she do to get the most from her healing post session?

Reiki doesn’t stop when the session ends. In fact, many people find that the real healing continues gently unfolding in the hours and days that follow.

By caring for yourself with intention after your session, you allow this healing to settle more deeply and naturally.

Here are some simple, nurturing ways to support yourself after a Reiki treatment.

🛏️ Give Yourself Time to Rest

After Reiki, your nervous system has often shifted into a deeply relaxed state. It’s important to honour this.

For the next day or two:

  • Rest if you feel tired

  • Go to bed earlier if your body asks for it

  • Choose gentle activities such as walking or stretching

  • Avoid rushing or overstimulating environments

Healing integrates best when we slow down.

💦 Drink Plenty of Water

Reiki can support emotional and energetic release, and hydration helps your body process these changes.

  • Drink extra water for 24–48 hours

  • Herbal teas can be soothing and grounding

  • Try to limit alcohol and excess caffeine

Think of water as helping the energy flow more freely.

💭 Notice What Comes Up – Gently

Everyone experiences Reiki differently. You might feel deeply relaxed, emotional, lighter, tired, or more clear.

You may notice:

  • Emotional release or unexpected feelings

  • Vivid dreams or insights

  • Temporary tiredness

All of this is normal. There’s no need to analyse or judge your experience. Simply notice and allow.

Writing a few thoughts down can help you reflect later.

🌧️ Allow Emotions to Move

Reiki often softens emotional layers we’ve been holding onto. If emotions arise, allow them to pass through without pushing them away.

A gentle breathing practice can help:

  • Inhale slowly through your nose

  • Exhale gently through your mouth, a little longer than the inhale

This helps your body feel safe and supported.

🧘‍♀️ Create a Gentle Self-Care Moment

Small acts of kindness towards yourself can anchor your healing.

You might choose:

  • A warm bath or shower

  • Time in nature

  • Quiet music or silence

  • Gentle stretching or self-Reiki if you practise it

There’s no right or wrong — choose what feels nurturing.

🥗 Eat Light, Nourishing Foods

After Reiki, many people feel drawn to lighter, more nourishing meals.

  • Fresh, simple foods often feel best

  • Eat slowly and mindfully

  • Listen to your body’s cues

Your body knows what it needs.

🙏🏻 Set an Intention, Not an Expectation

Rather than expecting a specific outcome, gently set an intention for your healing.

For example:

“I allow this healing to integrate in the way that is right for me.”

Trust that Reiki continues working in its own time.

⚖️ Be Gentle With Decisions

Because Reiki can bring clarity and emotional shifts, it’s often helpful to wait a day or two before making big decisions.

Let things settle before taking action.

💓 A Loving Reminder 💓

Healing is not something to force. Reiki supports your natural ability to rebalance, release, and realign — at your own pace.

Be kind to yourself. Your healing is unfolding.
